Eagles offensive line questions that must be answered in camp

The Philadelphia Eagles have built much of their offensive identity around dominant line play, but training camp will bring several important questions for a group that still has elite talent and lingering uncertainty.

The biggest storyline starts with Lane Johnson’s return from injury. Johnson remains one of the NFL’s premier right tackles when healthy, and his presence changes the entire structure of Philadelphia’s offense. His ability to erase elite edge rushers, stabilize the right side, and give Jalen Hurts clean launch points has been central to the Eagles’ success for years. The question entering camp is not whether Johnson can still play at a high level, but how quickly he can regain full rhythm after missing time and whether Philadelphia can manage his workload while still preparing the starting five for the regular season.

The Eagles also need healthier, more consistent seasons from Cam Jurgens and Landon Dickerson after both worked through injury-plagued 2025 campaigns. Jurgens is critical because of his athleticism, communication, and ability to anchor the middle of the line. Dickerson remains a tone-setting left guard, but Philadelphia needs him available and powerful in a system that will continue to lean on physicality, movement, and timing in the run game. If both return to form, the Eagles can again have one of the league’s best interior combinations.

Tyler Steen may be the most intriguing camp variable. Steen has shown flashes of the strength and versatility needed to become more than a depth piece, and a breakout summer could give Philadelphia a long-term answer at guard while improving the overall depth of the offensive line. His development matters even more because the Eagles need younger linemen ready to support an aging but still elite core.

The surest thing remains Jordan Mailata, whose dominance at left tackle gives Philadelphia a franchise-level blocker on the blind side. Mailata’s power, athleticism, and consistency provide the Eagles with a massive advantage, but even his presence does not erase the need for answers elsewhere. If Johnson is healthy, Jurgens and Dickerson rebound, and Steen takes a real step forward, the Eagles can enter 2026 with an offensive line capable of powering another deep NFC run.
