The San Francisco Giants have all but confirmed they’re going to be trade deadline sellers this season. While they’ve not yet started their fire sale, the door is open for trade talks on most of their roster.

Luis Arraez, Matt Chapman, Rafael Devers, and Willy Adames are the headliners from the lineup, while Robbie Ray and Tyler Mahle are the top pitchers likely to be available. But what about Logan Webb?

Thomas Harrigan of MLB.com noted how the Giants are facing a bit of a conundrum with Webb for the 2026 MLB trade deadline. While trading him doesn’t seem likely, this might be the time for the Giants to land a huge return for the ace while they still can.

“Dealing Webb might be the best chance for the team to retool its roster,” Harrigan writes. “It would be difficult to part with him, but San Francisco shouldn’t be completely opposed to it if another team is willing to pony up.”

Webb has been mentioned in trade rumors already this season, but it’s been about how the Giants have no plans to move on from the right-handed ace this season.

With the market for controllable starting pitching being so strong for selling teams this summer, if the Giants want to blow this roster up and retool, which seems possible with the Devers, Chapman, and Adames rumors, Webb makes sense as a trade chip.

But, unlike with Chapman, Devers, Adames, and the players set to hit free agency following the 2026 season, this Webb trade question is a huge problem for the Giants.

While Buster Posey would surely catch a lot of flak for trading Webb, the beloved franchise ace, it makes sense to part with him now while his value might be at its greatest.

The 2026 season is already looking bleak, and a mini retooling looks very likely. Why not trade Webb for a massive haul if a team makes such an offer?

No team may make such an offer, in which case keeping Webb wouldn’t be a terrible outcome at all. But if a team like the Chicago White Sox comes and makes a huge offer, it will be hard to turn down.

This is a big problem for the Giants, and it will be very interesting to see what Posey and company decide to do. Webb could stay in San Francisco, or they could trade the ace for a massive haul. Both scenarios have their pros and cons, and either is possible this summer.
