A man has been fined £865 after a ball boy was hit by a crutch that was thrown during a football match.

The 16-year-old suffered a cut to his face at the south coast derby between Portsmouth and Southampton on 25 January, police previously said.

Michael Wilson, 44, of Beedon Way, Eastleigh, pleaded guilty at Southampton Magistrates’ Court to assault by beating and throwing a missile onto the playing area at Fratton Park, Portsmouth.

He received a three-year football banning order and was ordered to pay compensation of £200.
