Commanders WR makes impressive catch after earning Dan Quinn's praise

Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn was asked this week which wide receiver, not named Terry McLaurin, had impressed him the most. His answer may have surprised some.
“Van Jefferson has been somebody that’s really caught my eye,” Quinn answered.
The head coach named other receivers, too, such as Dyami Brown, Luke McCaffrey and Jaylin Lane, but before he finished, he circled back to Jefferson.
“Having Van here, he’s an excellent route runner going into it,” he said.
So, it was no surprise that the veteran wide receiver made a head-turning play on Wednesday, the second day of Washington’s mandatory minicamp. Watch Jefferson in the back of the end zone with this impressive catch.

The focus on Washington’s wide receiver room isn’t about the players currently on the roster. Will the Commanders make another move, such as adding Stefon Diggs or Brandon Aiyuk, once he’s free? Those headlines have overshadowed the current players, which Washington really likes.
Terry McLaurin, Antonio Williams, Treylon Burks, Brown, McCaffrey, Lane and Jefferson. That’s a deep group. And while there may not be a No. 2 on paper right now, the potential is there for someone like Burks or Williams to ascend. Also, it’s important to remember that the Commanders will feature tight ends prominently in David Blough’s new-look offense.
When the Commanders signed Jefferson, most assumed he’d be training camp competition. After all, Washington was his fifth NFL team. But if we’ve learned anything since GM Adam Peters and Quinn took over in 2024, the best players will play. Previous draft status will get you only so far. If Jefferson is one of Washington’s better receivers, he’ll make the 53. It’s clear that the coaches really like him.
