Sioux Falls' Trevor Rick, Ari Jacobs lead SDGA Sanford Series finishers in Rapid City

Jun. 17—RAPID CITY — A pair of Sioux Falls golfers led the way during a two-day South Dakota Golf Association Sanford International Series stop in the West Region, which stopped at Hart Ranch Golf Course on Monday and Meadowbrook Golf Course on Tuesday,
In the boys division, Sioux Falls’ Trevor Rick put together a strong final round to capture the individual title. After opening with a 5-over-par 77 and sitting in a tie for sixth place after the first round, Rick surged to the top of the leaderboard with a 1-under-par 71 on Tuesday. His two-round total of 148 secured the championship by three strokes.
Wolsey’s Larz Tvedt entered the second round with a one-shot lead after firing a first-round 75, but settled for second place with a two-round score of 151. Rapid City’s Hayden Heig finished third at 152 after carding matching rounds of 76.
A four-way tie for fourth place followed at 153. Brandon’s Cooper Shuman rebounded from a first-round 79 with a 74 on Tuesday, while fellow Brandon golfer Jackson Burns posted rounds of 78 and 75. Rapid City’s Zane Messick recorded scores of 77 and 76, and Aberdeen’s Harper Schnabel turned in rounds of 76 and 77 to complete the top-seven boys finishers in the 43-player field.
Among Mitchell-area competitors, Wessington Springs’ JD Thompson improved by five strokes from the first to the second round. Thompson opened the tournament with an 84 before shooting a 79 on Tuesday, finishing tied for 20th place with a two-round total of 163.
The girls division featured the lowest round of the tournament across both divisions. Sioux Falls’ Ari Jacobs entered Tuesday in third place after an opening-round 80, but quickly climbed the leaderboard with a stellar 3-under-par 69 at Meadowbrook. Her two-round total of 149 earned the championship by six strokes.
Rapid City’s Kaitlin Strain finished runner-up at 155 after rounds of 80 and 75. Sioux Falls’ Stella Smith claimed third place with a 157 total, followed by Rapid City’s Rylan Horning at 158. Rapid City’s Finley Young rounded out the top five with a score of 161 in the 14-player girls field.
The Sanford International Series visits the Metro Region for its next stop, with competitors to play in Sioux Falls at Prairie Green Golf Course on Monday, June 29, and Willow Run Golf Course on Tuesday, June 30.
SIOUX FALLS — For the SDGA Prep Tour in the Metro region, Scotland’s rising sophomore Campbell Mogck claimed first place in the 14-15 girls division with a score of 88 at Elmwood Golf Course, good for five strokes over second-place Lauren Wolthuizen, of Sioux Falls (93).
In the intermediate boys 12-13 ranks, Sioux Falls’ Lincoln Trasamar was the top performer, shooting a 6-over-par 78. Sioux Falls’ Gavin Schlekeway claimed top honors with a 2-under-par 70 in the 14-15 boys division, winning by seven strokes over second-place Marcus Peterson, of Hartford (77).
Sioux Falls’ Briley Bartels earned a first-place finish in the 16-18 boys ranks, shooting a 2-over-par 74, while Josie Bormann, of Sioux Falls, took first in the 16-18 girls with a score of 79 strokes.
In the SDGA Mini Tour nine-hole divisions in the Metro region at Northern Links Golf Course in Sioux Falls, Salem’s Marney Heisinger finished second in the 9-and-under girls ranks with a score of 65 strokes. Hartford’s Lyla Tjepkes (51) was the top performer.
In the 10-11 boys division, Canistota’s Duke Stofferahn claimed second place with a score of 7-over-par 43. Sioux Falls’ Rylan Karels paced the division at 40 strokes.
Mount Vernon golfers Tucker Bialas (54) and Maddox Frerichs (57) took third and fourth place, respectively, in the 12-13 boys ranks. Jefferson’s Hudson Monk (43) was the top performer.
Salem’s Morris Heisinger (43) claimed fourth in the 9-and-under boys division, while Gavin Korkow, of Sioux Falls, claimed top honors with a score of even-par 36.
The SDGA Junior Tour also made a West Region stop on Monday at Hart Ranch Golf Course in Rapid City. In the nine-hole Mini Tour, Mitchell’s Brooks Aadland finished atop the boys age 10-11 standings with a score of 45 strokes, which was matched by Sturgis’ Kipton Kopp and Custer’s Davey Halverson. Mitchell’s Kendall Aadland was fourth in the age 12-13 girls division with a score of 63 strokes. Sophie Wilson, of Rapid City, won the division at 55 strokes.
The SDGA Junior Tour shifts to the Southeast Region on Thursday, with Lakeview Golf Course in Mitchell hosting the next tournament.
