The New York Yankees and Houston Astros are going to be connected a good bit during the Major League Baseball trade deadline, and rightfully so. Right now, the Yankees have been one of the better teams in the American League, while the Astros have struggled a good bit.
On the flip side, it’s fair to suggest that the Astros and Yankees might not want to make blockbuster trades together, as helping out New York likely isn’t something Houston is particularly interested in.
At the end of the day, it all comes down to what the Yankees are willing to move on from and how much the Astros want in return.
Among the multiple players the Yankees could be interested in, left-handed reliever Josh Hader should be at the top of that list. One reporter gave an update on where the Yankees and Hader stand on a potential trade, and there still seems to be some questions about what could happen.
“The name that I keep coming back to as far as the trade market goes, what about Josh Hader?” Murray said. “He’s a guy who signed with Houston on a big five-year, $95 million contract. He’s been injured. When he is available, he’s one of the best and most elite relievers in baseball.
“The Astros are only four games out of their division, so it’s not like we’re talking about them being a definitive seller by any means. But he’s someone who, if you’re trying to make an impact addition where you can have him in the ninth inning, you’re not going to find anyone better at this deadline than him.”
Hader was injured a bit to start the season, not making his first appearance in the bullpen until June 3. However, in his five innings, he’s been one of the better relievers in baseball, allowing zero hits, zero runs, and striking out seven.
