Roquan Smith praises Trenton Simpson’s growth entering a key season

Roquan Smith has watched Trenton Simpson closely since the young linebacker arrived in Baltimore, and he believes this could be the season everything comes together. Smith noted that Simpson is entering a critical year in his development and has shown noticeable growth throughout the offseason. The veteran pointed to improved preparation, confidence, and understanding of the defense as major reasons for optimism. Before discussing Simpson’s future, Smith explained how much progress he’s already witnessed.
“The way the guy’s been working – this is the best I’ve seen him since I’ve been around.”
One key factor has been continuity.
“It’s the first year he’s had the same position coach, where the material and the terminology is the same person teaching it to him.”
Smith also credited Simpson for learning from mistakes rather than repeating them.
“He’s not making the mistakes that he’s made in the past, and even if he does make a mistake … he’s not making those same mistakes twice.”
The Ravens have long believed Simpson possesses the physical tools necessary to succeed. Now, according to Smith, the mental side is catching up as well.
“I’m very excited for where he’s going to go.”
If Simpson’s trajectory continues upward, Baltimore could enter the season with one of the NFL’s most talented linebacker duos anchoring the middle of the defense.
